2012 Intern Highlight – Jack Sterner

2012 Intern Highlight – Jack Sterner

This summer was one of the best summers of my life. Being able to teach both musical theatre and film and video to the campers at Outpost has only added to my love for both those activities and the students themselves. The training experience was awesome. I felt like I had known the rest of the staff for years before this experience. It was amazing how quickly we all bonded and I know I have made really great kingdom relationships that will hopefully last a lifetime. The actual camp experience was one that included both hard work and a really fun time getting to play with the students in the camps and watch them learn at unbelievable paces. Not only did they learn, but I, myself, received many great learning experiences on work ethic, film, leading worship, teamwork, as well as many other lessons. And lastly, Colorado was incredibly beautiful and breathtaking. Every time I looked out the window I was reminded of Gods incredible creativity!

When God told me to apply for the Artios Outpost Internship, I didn’t know what to expect. After praying, I decided to apply. I am extremely glad I did! When I got accepted for an internship, my life changed. I so loved spending time and working with the Lanes and my wonderful friends. My bond with them and love for them grew incredibly strong over the course of this summer. God stretched me in many ways, one of which was flexibility in planning. I had to be flexible and listen to His voice and His plans. It was very challenging, but I always love a good challenge. My relationship with God was strengthened during the summer. My faith in Him has definitely increased. Artios Outpost was everything I expected and more.

Colorado was simply amazing! I loved the adventures we had together as a group, and working with such amazing staff and students truly blessed me. Working with the kids at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club was an experience of a lifetime and I will forever treasure the love those kids poured out into each and every one of us interns. To have an opportunity to affect their lives and help them to come to know Jesus in new ways was so incredible. This internship reminded me time and time again why God calls us to be like children. To have a heart and mind open to instruction and ready to try whatever new thing God brings our way, is a beautiful gift. To be totally dependant on God and follow Him blindly wherever He goes, whether through trials or joy, pain or gladness, is something I learned anew. I learned as much from the students, as the students learned from me. I can’t thank God enough for honoring me with the ability and opportunity to teach His precious children.

This has been a life changing experience and if God calls you to apply for the internship, DO IT! I praise God that I ignored my inhibitions and applied even though it wasn’t in my plans. Outpost was everything I expected and more. This has been an unforgettable summer full of joyful challenges and growing in so many ways. If you do this program, you will be changed for the better!
